Last week, the Law Offices of Jeffrey Lichtman along with the Law Office of Marc Fernich filed a notice of claim against the New York City Police Department on behalf of the wife and mother of George Tillman, charging wrongful death and excessive force by the NYPD officers who gunned Mr. Tillman down after he was initially spotted drinking from an open container in Queens in April of this year.  Chasing Mr. Tillman down the street, multiple police officers opened fire when they claimed Mr. Tillman pulled a gun on them.  Not a single, non-police witness has claimed Mr. Tillman possessed a weapon that night and no one present at the scene heard officers scream at Mr. Tillman to drop any gun.  Instead, the officers opened fire, hitting him with more than 10 shots – without a single shot fired by Mr. Tillman.  Continue reading

George Tillman was buried this past Saturday after an emotional funeral at the New Jerusalem Worship Center in Jamaica, Queens.  George was shot 13 times, including once in the head, after multiple members of the NYPD approached him during an investigation of an open container of alcohol on April 17.  The Tillman family and friends of George expressed their outrage during the funeral whose speakers included State Senator Leroy Comrie, representatives of the National Action Network and activist Erica Ford of LIFE Camp, Inc.  “There are no words that can bring comfort and solace to you,” said Comrie to the Tillman family.  “Something that never should have happened, happened.” Continue reading

tillmanThe family of George Tillman has hired the Law Offices of Jeffrey Lichtman and the Law Office of Marc Fernich to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing of Mr. Tillman by four NYPD officers during the early morning hours of April 17, 2016.  Following this investigation, a civil rights lawsuit pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 may also be filed against the NYPD.  George was shot 13 times, including once in the head and in the back, after officers claimed they approached him during an investigation for having an open container and he raised a gun towards them. Eyewitnesses who are not associated with the NYPD claim that George never raised a gun toward the police.
